America's Most Beautiful $5 Bill
America's Most Beautiful $5 Bill
More than 115 years old...with fewer than 3,500 known to exist!
No banknote captures its era more beautifully than the astonishing Series 1896 $5 Silver Certificate. This over-sized antique represents a never-to-be-seen-again age of demure glamour and classical sophistication. Issued for only three years, the highest denomination in the celebrated “Educational” series is also its rarest — meaning few Americans will ever see, let alone own, one. But a recent discovery, available exclusively from PCS Stamps & Coins, means that you can be one of those extremely select few.
You will receive a Series 1896 $5 Silver Certificate that:
• Belongs to a class of bills once redeemable for silver from the U.S. Treasury, and is of a type that was rendered obsolete 50 years ago.
• Depicts classical figures representing electricity, Jupiter, Peace and Fame on the front, and features portraits of Civil War generals Ulysses S. Grant and Philip Sheridan on the back.
• Is more than half an inch taller and more than an inch longer than today’s “small-size” bills; the large-size bills (or “horse blankets”) were last issued in 1929.
• Was found too “racy” for late 1800’s American society, its bare-breasted figures sparking protests and forcing the Treasury to find a quick replacement.
• Is presented in circulated condition due to its age and scarcity, in a clear currency holder to prevent dust, fingerprints and wear, and enable viewing of every detail.
