A centuries-old gold coin from the earliest years of the United States...

Often referred to as the “Old Spanish Doubloon” or the “Old Spanish Pistole,” the 2-escudos coin contained about a fifth of an ounce of gold, and was equal in value to four Spanish silver dollars. Long before the U.S. began minting its own coins, it was one of a handful of coins officially authorized by the Continental Congress in 1776 as legal tender in the newly formed United States of America, thus allowing the U.S. to compete in the global economy. Deemed trustworthy after a century in circulation, it was beautifully struck on some of the earliest coin presses.

This historic gold coin:

• Will date from 1833 or earlier.
• Features a portrait of the reigning Spanish monarch on the front, and the crowned shield of the Spanish royal family on the back.
• May have passed through the hands of our founding fathers or colonial ancestors!
• Is presented in gently circulated condition, protected against dust, fingerprints and wear in a crystal-clear holder, so you may appreciate every detail, front and back.
